The Suffering Servant (Part 1)       Jan 23, 2016 The book of Isaiah, chapters 42 through 53, describes God's "Suffering Servant." This first in a series of messages examines that concept, which is very important to both Judaism and Christianity. Judaism interprets the Suffering Servant as an allegorical reference to the nation and people of Israel. Christianity believes that the Suffering Servant is prophetic of the life of Jesus and proof of His Messiahship. This series will look at both positions, and explain why we believe that these verses describe God's only begotten son, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. |
The Suffering Servant (Part 2)       February 20, 2016 This is the second in a series of messages examining the concept of the "Suffering Servant," as described in the book of Isaiah, chapters 42 through 53. Judaism interprets the Suffering Servant as an allegorical reference to the nation and people of Israel. Christianity believes that the Suffering Servant is prophetic of the life of Jesus and proof of His Messiahship. This series will look at both positions, and explain why we believe that these verses describe God's only begotten son. |
The Suffering Servant (San Diego version)       April 9, 2016 The Jews say the suffering servant of Isaiah 42-53 is Israel; Christians say it is Jesus. Garnant addresses this by looking first at the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8 and how it shows that Isaiah 53 is about Jesus. When Jesus withdraws after healing the withered arm, he is fulfilling Isaiah 42. Also, "it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath". How? What? these suffering-servant chapters give us a renewed perspective on the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Also, Paul preached Jesus from "the law and the prophets". Andrew did, too. The Ethiopian believes that Jesus is the Messiah and the suffering servant. |
His Life and Your Life       April 23, 2016 This message discusses the tremendous typology and significance of the Days of Unleavened Bread and the associated Wave Sheaf offering, and how they relate to two very different and special lives: His life and your life. |
The Plain Truth       May 28, 2016 This message examines some interesting issues related to honesty and lying, and discusses the responsibility to seek, uphold and tell the truth. |
Seven Species       June 11, 2016 Beginning with the physical, agricultural aspects associated with the events and holy days leading up to Pentecost, this message takes a closer look at the analogous spiritual fruit produced by the indwelling of God's Holy Spirit within the mind of the believer. |
One Good Heart Beats a Good Flush       September 24, 2016 This sermon, based on the Parable of the Sower, focuses on the importance of the heart. As we approach the fall holy days, we should examine, prepare and allow God to help us refine our hearts to receive His word and live our lives in the manner He desires. |
In Your Father's Hand       October 3, 2016 Included in the meaning of the Feast of Trumpets is the sounding of the last trumpet and the resurrection of the righteous to eternal life in God's family. This sermon reflects on that holy day and is a message about God's hands and the great joy of knowing that He will write our name in the Book of Life if we respond to His calling and endure to the end. |
Details to the Day of Atonement       October 12, 2016 There are many Details to the Day of Atonement. God appearing before the mercy seat and the High Priest entering the most holy place are two of the details with much meaning. |
We're All on a Journey       October 29, 2016 We are all on a journey of faith into the Kingdom of God. This sermon, based primarily on the book of Hebrews and given immediately after the fall holy days, expounds on the past, present and future meaning of the Feast of Tabernacles and the 8th Day of Assembly. Hebrews focuses primarily on two major holy days: the Day of Atonement and the 8th Day. The book depicts Christ as the High Priest who provides access to God forever in this life (Day of Atonement), but ultimate access to God for all humanity into eternity (the 8th Day). |
Two Powers in Heaven - With a Twist (part 1)       December 3, 2016 The Trinity is a defining doctrine of Christianity in almost all of its forms. This message, the first in a three-part series, reviews the United Church of God's doctrinal position on the nature of God with respect to monotheism, trinitarianism and the relationship between the Father and His Son. Recent theological research is examined, highlighting an aspect of that research which refutes one of the pillars of the trinitarian concept. |
Two Powers in Heaven - With a Twist (part 2)       December 31, 2016 Part 2 of a three-part series. This message continues the discussion of trinitarianism, strict monotheism and the relationship between God the Father and His Son, offering additional aspects of the nature of God from a biblical perspective. |
